من ميزات الشعر الديني أنه يركز قبل كل شيء على نشر مبادئ الدين وإحياء حقائق الإيمان في القلوب والنفوس، ومن جملة الأمور التي كان شعراء آل البيت (رضي الله عنهم) يولونها التشجيع هي تخليد المواقف البطولية وإحياء ذكر الإمام الحسين (رضي الله عنه) في قراءة القصائد الحسينية، ومثلهم فعل الشعراء المعاصرون ومنهم مؤلف الكتاب الشاعر العراقي "وسام الشويلي" في ديوانه المعنون "الوسام الحسيني" في رئاء النبي وآله. ويضم مجموع قصائد هي في مضمونها مرائي في ذكر مصاب آل البيت باستشهاد سيد الشهداء "الحسين" ومعه شهداء كربلاء.
جاء الكتاب في خمسة أبواب تضمنت عناوين مختلفة: الباب الأول: قصائد الجلوس (الكعده)، والثاني: قصائد القريض والملمع، والثالث: قصائد اللطم، والرابع: قصائد من وزن الموشح، والخامس: قصائد من وزن التجليبه، الباب السادس: قصائد بأوزان مختلفة.
تحت عنوان (توزيع الخدر) يقول الشاعر الشويلي: زينب هالمسيو تودع أخوتها/ وتودع خدرها وذيج هيبتها/ زينب هالمسيه الدمع منها أيسيل/ ولوداع الأحبة أنهدم منها الحبل/ وي أهل الحمية بس سواد الليل/ ولو صار الصبح مصيبتها(...)".
