يعتبر هذا المؤلف بأجزائه الستة، من خير كتب التفسير العلميّة وأجلها، وكل ما جاء بعد الزمخشري عالة عليه، فيما يذكره من أسرار الإعجاز، والغوص على المعاني البلاغية الدقيقة. ومن متميزات هذا التفسير: خلوه من الحشو والتطويل، سلامته من القصص الإسرائيلي غالباً، وإذا ذكر بعضه فإنه قد يفنده، اعتماده في بيان المعاني على لغة العرب وأساليبهم في الخطاب، عنايته الفائقة بالإبانة عن أسرار الإعجاز القرآني بطريقة فنية قائمة على الذوق الأدبي، اتباعه طريقة السؤال (إن قلتَ، بفتح التاء)، ويقول في الجواب: (قلتُ: بضم التاء) وهي طريقة من طرق التشويق، في التعليم، وترسيخ المعاني في النفس. وقد قيض الله لهذا الكتاب من نبّه إلى ما فيه من اعتزاليات، وبين ما فيه من انحراف، وميل باللفظ القرآني إلى مذهب أهل الاعتزال، وهو: الإمام أحمد بن محمد المعروف بابن المنير فألف في هذا المجال كتابه "الانتصاف" حيث يمكن الكتاب القارئ لتفسير الكشاف أن يقرأه ليقف على الآراء الاعتزالية التي ذهب إليها في أثناء تفسيره.
