تأتي أهمية دراسة فكر السيد "محمد باقر الصدر" من كونه أهم رواد الفكر والإصلاح في القرن العشرين، ورمزاً من رموز الوحدة الوطنية، فكتاباته ومواقفه كانت تنم عن حرص شديد على الوحدة بين كل مكونات الشعب العراقي والأمة الإسلامية من دون تفريق على أساس عرقي أو مذهبي. إذ يقو سماحته "... يا أبناء علي والحسين وأبناء بكر وعمر، إن الحكم الذي مثله الخلفاء الراشدون والذي كان يقوم على أساس الإسلام والعدل حمل عليَ السيف للدفاع عنه، إذ حارب جندياً في حروب الردة تحت لواء الخليفة الأول أبي بكر".
أما أهم المحاور التي بحثها المؤلف في هذا الكتاب فهي: التجديد الكلامي- منهج التقييم - منهج الابداع- عوامل النبوغ- حركة التجديد- منهج التأصيل النظري.
