وتأتي هذه المحاولة لتصب في إطار التحول المذهل في مجالات التربية كفلسفة وكأسلوب متبع. وما هذا العمل إلا محاولة لتخطي المشكلة المتمثلة بين المحتوى التقليدي لنفسانية الأطفال غير السويين وأساليب وطرق تعليمهم، وبين طروحات جديدة وواقع مستحدث مرتبط بالبناء النظري والمهني المختص بهؤلاء الأطفال.
فثمة محاولات أخرى قد اهتمت بهذه المشكلات عند الأطفال الغير عاديين في أبعاد وقطاعات مجتزأة لا ترابط بينهما، وقد درست بعمق قطاعات معينة دون التعرض لقطاعات أخرى ينبغي الإلتفات إليها ,أخذها بعين الاعتبار.
وما هذه المحاولة إلا لتعكس توجهاً حديثاً سيأخذ بالنظم الحديثة المتبعة لتقويم ومساعدة هؤلاء الأطفال في المجتمعات العربية عامة والمجتمع اللبناني بشكل خاص وذلك في وجود اهتمامات وأهداف تعليمية واحدة موحدة بين فئات مختلفة من الذين يعانون من قصور أو عجز ما. فهؤلاء المضطربون إنفعالياً والمتخلفون عقلياً والمعاقون عصبياً وغيرهم يتداخلون في كثير من العوامل المرتبطة بالتربية الخاصة لهم.
فثمة استراتيجيات ناجحة في عملها تقوم على أسس علمية ثابتة يمكن لها أن تثبت صوابية عملها في حال استخدمت استخداماً ناجحاً وإن تباينت درجة إعاقة المدروسين، وما يهتم به هذا الكتاب هو عرض ودراسة هذا المستوى المشترك فيما بين الأطفال اللاسويين والمشكلات المرتبطة بأي إنحراف جسمي أو وظيفي، كما يهتم بتوضيح الأبعاد والمظاهر النفسية والتعليمية للأطفال غير السويين، والتوجهات العامة في مجال التربية والتأهيل الخاصين وكذلك التغيرات الحاصلة فيه، مع مناقشة لبعض المفاهيم السلوكية العامة والطبيعية الخاصة لتطبيق هذه المفاهيم في مجال المعاقين.
وهناك فصل خاص يهتم بدراسة الإنحرافات الجسمية (البدنية) والوظيفية في ناحية الدوافع والأسباب والمعوقات التي قادت إليها والتقنيات المستخدمة في قياسها وتقييمها، وذلك إنطلاقاً من وضع تصنيف واضح لهؤلاء الأطفال اللاسويين.
