Book Description
يشتمل هذا الكتاب على ثلاثة أقسام، تناولت بالبحث تاريخ العرب القديم, وحضارة العرب في العصر الجاهلي.
فالقسم الأول هو مدخل إلى حضارة العرب في العصور القديمة، حيث وصف فيه مهد العرب من الناحية الجغرافية، وبحث في أصل العرب وتاريخهم القديم، ومصادر تاريخ الحضارة العربية. وكيف تم الكشف عن هذه الحضارة.
أما القسم الثاني فهو عبارة عن دراسة لتاريخ الممالك العربية القديمة: (اليمن، الأنباط، تدمر، الغساسنة، المناذرة، كندة)، والمعالم البارزة في حضارة كل منها، ومآثرها وتفاعلاتها مع الحضارات الأخرى.
أما القسم الثالث فيتعلق بحضارة العرب قبل الإسلام وفيه تم الحديث وبشيء من التفصيل عن الأوضاع الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والدينية والثقافية لشبه الجزيرة العربية في فترة العصر الجاهلي، العصر الذي مهد لولادة الدولة العربية.
كان للعرب في الجاهلية حضارتهم, وصلاتهم بالعالم الذي كان يحيط بهم. فقد عرف العرب النظم الاقتصادية من رعي وفلاحة وزراعة وتجارة, وكانت جزيرة العرب, منذ القدم, طريقاً هاماً للتجارة: فطوراً تنقل غلاتها الى ممالك أخرى كالشام ومصر, وطوراً تنقل غلات بعض المناطق والممالك الأخرى. وكان للعرب أديان ومعتقدات ونظم قرابية معقدة, كما كان لهم منتديات وجمعيات وأحلاف تخدم أغراضاً محددة مرسومة, وقواعد دقيقة محكمة ترسم أصول اللياقة وآداب السلوك, وحكم وأمثال جميلة الصياغة, وكأنما أصبحت المقدرة البيانية عندهم سليقة من سلائقهم. وكان للعرب أدب رفيع هو مرآة تتجلى فيها الروح العربية في جميع أطوارها من أصالة وامتزاج, من بداوة وحضارة, من نهوض وجمود, من قوة وضعف. فهو مرآة تنازع البقاء والتحرر من كل نير اللذين اتصف بهما ابن الصحراء ربيب الحرية والإباء, كما اتصف بهما العربي عموماً في جميع العصور.
