الفضائل في اللغة، جمع "فضيلة" والفضيلة هي الدرجة الرفيعة في حسن الخلق، أو هي الدرجة السامية في الفضل والأخلاق الحميدة والصفات الرفيعة، إنها المزايا التي دعت الأديان، كل الأديان، إلى الاتصاف بها، والعمل بما تقضيه. وكلما اتسم الإنسان بالفضائل، كان مؤمناً حق الإيمان، أيّاً كان دينه وكان متجذراً في الإنسانية، هذه الصفة تقابل الحيوانية التي تعني الرذائل والشهوانية والوحشية.
والفضائل كثيرة لكنها جميعاً بنات "المحبة" حتى قيل: "أحبب ثم أعمل أي شيء، فالحب يكون صادقاً، حليماً، أميناً، وفياً عادلاً، غفوراً، كريماً..."، ونظراً إلى كثرة هذه الفضائل، ولرغبة "إميل ناصيف" في تفصيل القول فيها، فقد خصص في سلسلة هذه من "أروع ما قيل" كتابين تناول في ألأول منهما "الأمانة" و"التواضع" و"الحق والعدل" و"الصبر" و"العفو". وبحث في الثاني "المحبة" و"الصدق" و"الوفاء" و"المروءة" و"الحياة" و"الشرف".
وما يميز هذين الجزئين من السلسلة هو احتواءهما على الكثير من الآراء الحكمية والأقوال الخالدة في الفضائل، كما واحتويا على كثير من الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة التي جاءت حول هذه الموضوعات هذا إلى جانب ما جاء في الدين المسيحي حول هذه الموضوعات.
