يعد ديوان وسيلة النجاة للخطيب الشاعر سليمان أحمد بن سليم السهلاوي البحراني (توفي سنة 1386ه) من أهم الأعمال التي برز فيها رثاء النبي وآله الهداة، أو ما يعرف بالشعر الحسيني، فالمؤلف كانت له شعبية جعلته واحداً من أولئك الذين خدموا المنبر الحسيني، فملأ القلوب والوجدان بشعره، وخاصة أنه ابتكر أوزاناً جديدة جذابة، سيطرت على عواطف الناس من معاصريه سيطرة تامة فهو ممن وصفوا بإجادة قراءة الشعر، وكان أكثره في النخوة وإثارة الحفائط، مليئاً بالحماس ممزوجاً بالشجاء، فألفاظه تنطق حماساً وعباراته تقطر شجاءً، مع ما هو عليه من الإكثار في شعره، سواء في أبيات القطعة الواحدة أو في كل شعره.
قدم للديوان بكلمة الأستاذ محمد علي الناصري / جامع الديوان، بدأه بلمحات من حياة الشاعر البحراني، وخطابته، وشخصيته، وشعره، يتبع ذلك الديوان الذي وزعه على عناوين وفصول نذكر منها: "في الركباني" ، "في حداء مذيل" ، "في ركباني مذيل" ، "في كلمة ونص" ، "في الحداء" ، "في الشيالة". وأخيراً ملحق "فيه أوزان مختلفة من شعر البحراني".
