استفاض النقل عن النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) وأئمة الهدى من أهل بيته الكرام (عليهم السلام) في الحث على طلب العلم ومدارسته ففي حديث عبد الرحمن ابن زيد عن أبي عبد الله الصادق (عليه السلام) قال: قال رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم): "طلب العلم فريضة على كل مسلم ألا أن الله يحب بغاة العلم"، وإنطلاقاً من هذا المبدأ توجه المسلمون إلى طلب العلوم الدينية لمعرفة ما يؤدون به حق الله تعالى عليهم وما تكون به نجاتهم يوم لا ينفع مال ولا بنون إلا من أتى بقلب سليم، ولشدة الإرتباط بين علمي الفقه وأصوله الإرتباط الذي يظهر بوضوح في عملية إستنباط الأحكام الشرعية وكيفية وصول المجتهد لمعرفة الوظيفة العملية التي جعلها الشارع في حق المكلف حيث يعتمد الفقيه على عدد من القواعد التي يلزم الفراغ عن تنقيحها بمرحلة سابقة على عملية الإستنباط، وهذه القواعد تستقى من الأحكام العقلية او العقلانية أو الشرعية وتختلف من حيث الوضوح والخفاء والبساطة والتعقيد، ومنه يظهر أن الحاجة لتعلم أصول الفقه ليست لذاته بل لتوقف عملية إستنباط الأحكام الشرعية عليه، وذلك يقود إلى حقيقة تاريخية يدركها كل من يستقري تاريخ الفقه الإسلامي وهي نمو علم الأصول في أحضان علم الفقه كما نما علم الفقه في أحضان علم الحديث، ثم مر بمراحل متعددة تدرّج فيها من البساطة في الكم والكيف إلى التعقيد والتعمق والتوسع فهو يعطي الفقيه القواعد العامة في الإستنباط في مختلف الأبواب الفقهية، ومع أن بدايات علم الأصول كانت مع عصر النص إلا أن ذلك لا يمنع من وجود أبحاث أصولية ولو بدائية وبمقدار الحاجة في ذلك العصر ولكن بعد عصر النص أخذ العلم بالتطور والتوسع شيئاً فشيئاً وتبعاً لمزيد الحاجة تعمق بإمتداد الفاصل الزمني والبعد عن مصدر الأحكام الشرعية.
وتعد مباحث الدليل اللفظي من أهم أبحاث العلم؛ لتوقف إستنباط كثير من الأحكام الشرعية عليها بإعتبارها تتعامل مع أهم مصادر التشريع وهما الكتاب الكريم والسنّة الشريفة، ويعد البحث في الأصول اللفظية من أهم أبحاث الدليل اللفظي وأكثرها فائدة بإعتبار سعة إعتماد الفقيه عليها في عملية التفكير الإستنباطي.
