يشكل هذا الكتاب قراءة في حياة وديوان " الناشئ الصغير " علي بن عبد الله بن وصيف شاعر أهل البيت عليهم السلام المتوفي سنة 366ه . والكتاب من جمع الشيخ محمد السماوي ، وتحقيق هلال بن ناجي .
وبناءً عليه ، يسرد الكتاب نشأة الشاعر وحالته الإجتماعية ومذهبه وآثاره وأخباره وخلقه ، وشيوخه ومضيفاته ورأي علماء وأدباء عصره في شعره .
ولأن الشاعر كان مؤمناً بمذهب الإمامية فإن شعره نطق بذلك يناظر بأجود عباراته واستنفذ عمره في مديح آل البيت والدفاع عن حقوقهم حتى عُرف بهم وأشعاره فيهم كثيرة . ولذلك يوضح المحقق لهذا الكتاب بـ أن الشاعر الناشئ الصغير اختُصّ بمدح آل البيت عليهم السلام ولكنه مدح آخرين من رجال عصره ، فممن مدحهم : إبن رائق الوزير المعروف وكان سبباً لإيصاله إلى الخليفة العباسي الراضي بالله . وقصد سيف الدولة ومدحه ، كما قصد كافوراً الأخشيدي بمصر وامتدحه ( ... ) وغيرهم . وأن أغلب هذه المدائح لم يصلنا وضاع فيما ضاع من شعره .
ومن مصنفاته ذكرت بعض المصادر أن له ديوان شعر ، ولكن هذا الديوان مفقود ، وقد عمل الباحث الشاعر الشيخ محمد السماوي إلى تلقط أشعاره من المصادر النادرة وكثيرٌ منها مخطوط ، فصنع له ديواناً وقع في ست عشر صفحة ضمّ 349 بيتاً ، كلها مما قيل في مديح آل البيت عليهم السلام ورثائهم ومناقبهم . فكان هذا الكتاب " ديوان الناشئ الصغير " بجهد الشيخ محمد السماوي الذي جمع ما جمع من شعر الناشئ الصغير مما وصلنا بعد قرونٍ من ضياع ديوانه ...
