هذا الكتاب، دراسة أكاديمية جامعة بين علم الحديث وعلم الفقه وأصوله، تحتوي مضامين ومعاني في فني الرواية والدراية وقد افرد مؤلفها الدكتور علي نايف بقاعي عبر صفحاتها مباحث عشرين علماً من علوم الحديث كان لها أثرٌ مهمٌ في اختلاف الفقهاء، فعرضها عرضاً علمياً دقيقاً، وبيّن بعض آثارها في اختلاف الفقهاء من خلال التطبيقات، وهذه العلوم هي: الجرح والتعديل، ورواية المجهول، ورواية أصحاب البدع، والمرسل، ومرسل الصحابي، والمرسل الخفي، والمدلس، وغريب الحديث، ومختلف الحديث، والناسخ والمنسوخ، والمعنون، والمؤنن، وزيادات الثقات، والمعلّ الذي يندرج تحته: المدرج، والمصحف، والمقلوب، والمضطرب، والرواية بالمعنى، والشاذ، لذا يمكن اعتبارها دراسة في علم أصول الحديث المقارن.
وفي الدراسة بيّن المؤلف أن عبارات الجرح والتعديل ومراتبها ليست مجرد ألفاظ استخدمت في الزمن الغابر، ولكنها ألفاظٌ لا زال للإجتهاد فيها مجال. فهناك كما أوضح المؤلف: إجتهاد في فهم هذه الألفاظ، وتحديد مراد كل إمام من مصطلحاته التي عبر بها عن مراتب الرواة، وهناك اجتهادٌ في حكم الجرح والتعديل المبهمين، واجتهادٌ في معرفة الراجح من اقوال الناقد الواحد في الراوي نفسه عند اختلافها، وغير ذلك من المسائل الخلافية التي تؤثر في الحكم على الرواة وبالتالي في الحكم على الأحاديث تصحيحاً أو تضعيفاً، وكذلك فيما يترتب عليها من أحكام شرعية.
وانطلاقاً من هذا الفهم قسم المؤلف دراسته إلى تمهيد أوضح فيه معاني الإجتهاد والحديث والفقه، وأتبع ذلك بثلاثة أبواب تناول الباب الأول: الإجتهاد المتعلق بالسند، بينما تناول الباب الثاني: الإجتهاد المتعلق بالمتن، وخصص الباب الثالث للإجتهاد في العلوم المشتركة بين السند والمتن.
وعليه، يمكن القول أن المؤلف بعمله هذا، أظهر عمق الصلة بين الفقه والحديث النبوي الشريف، وقوة تمسّك المذاهب الأربعة بالحديث، ودقة تعامل أصحابها معه في استنباط الأحكام الشرعية منه، بخلاف ما يشاع عنهم من هجر بعضهم للحديث.
