إنه مما لا شك فيه، أن السعودية ليست نسيجاً واحداً أصماً، بل هي ككل مجتمع متنوع، وداخل هذا التنوع، يوجد أيضاً تنوع لا تخلو منه أي فئة أو مذهب أو طائفة، أو جماعة دينية أو سياسية أو اجتماعية أو فكرية، هذه حقيقة تجدها عند الجميع، فهناك تنوع داخل السلفية، بين رسمية ولا رسمية، ومعتدلة ومتشددة، وصحوية وجهادية، كما أن الشيعة يعيشون التنوع بين التقليدية الدينية والسياسية، وتنوع في المرجعيات الدينية، وشيعة ليبرالية وشيعة دينية، ولا أشك أن أي كلام عن أي فئة سوف يكشف عن نفس هذا التنوع، داخل الصوفية والإسماعيلية والزيدية والسنية، عبر تنوع المذاهب داخل السعودية، إنها بلد شديد التنوع، في الواقع الاجتماعي، والديني والثقافي، وإن كان يحاول رفضه رسمياً أو التقليل من تأثيره إعلامياً.
وفي واقعنا لا نشك بأن وجودنا مع بعض أصبح ضرورة، وإذا كنا نعاني من مشكلات في تعريف من هو هذا الـ"نحن"، فهذا لا يعني عدم تأثيره فينا بمجرد وجودنا مع بعض، وحتى ونحن نعيش هذه الـ"نحن"، مجزأة بطريقة ثقافية، فإننا ندرك بأن هذه الجمعية قد أثرت في واقع الحريات بطريقة لم تكن معهودة، وربما بما أدى إلى أزمة في: كيف نختار طريقنا للحياة مع بعض؟، لقد رأينا كيف أن القصيبي انتقد الثقافة الرسمية كونها لا تصنع "ثقافة الثقافة"، وهو هنا باختياره لطريقة الحرية -كحل- كأنه يريد القول بأن طريقة الحياة الصحيحة هي الحياة بالحرية.
كنا في السابق نعيش جزراً جغرافية واجتماعية -"قبائل، مدن، قرى، بدو"- ومعرفية وثقافية واسعة المدى، لا تسمح بالتواصل إلا عبر الغزو والاحتراب، ومع توحيد قلب الجزيرة بأطرافها الشرقية والغربية والشمالية، تمزقت جزر الجغرافيا وبعض جزر الاجتماع، وبقيت جزر المعرفة والثقافة تسيطر على المجتمع حتى مع التجاور القريب، ومن استطاع التمدد في كل مكان هو المذهب الرسمي للدولة، حيث تواجد في كل مكان تتواجد فيه، كجزء من تركيب النظام من الحلفين السياسي والديني، القادر على بسط النفوذ، من الطبيعي، أن من يحدد طبيعة النظام الداخلي للمجتمع، هو الفكر الديني، إذ السياسي مهمته التطبيق، أما تحديد ما هو النظام الصالح، فلا بد أنه الفكر الديني الذي يقود الدولة.
