لا يختلف اثنان في كون سليمان الدخيل النجدي، أول أديب عربي عني بنشر تأريخ الجزيرة العربية، في مطالع القرن الحديث. وهو يمثل بحق دور الريادة في هذا السبيل.
هَامَ وَجْدَاً بتاريخ نجد، وكتب بدمه أخبار الشيخ والقيصوم، حتى جعل قاعدة الجزيرة "الرياض" اسماً لداره ولجريدته "الرياض".
ويمكن تلمّس هذا الوجد من ثنايا هذه الأبيات، التي استشهد بها الدخيّل عن بلاد نجد. قال: "لقد حنّ إعرابي إلى بلاد نجد... بقوله: حنيناً إلى أرض كأن ترابها إذا أمطرت عود ومسك وعنبر، بلاد كأن الأقحوان بروضه ونور الأقاحي وشي برد محبّر، أحن إلى أرض الحجاز وحاجتي خيام بنجد دونها الطرف يقصر".
