جمع المؤلف في هذا الكتاب تراجم لأبرز الرجال الذين ساهموا في الحركة السياسية والثقافية والإجتماعية في منطقة الأحساء، من القرن الخامس حتى القرن الرابع عشر الهجري، وبذلك حاول أن يكشف ما أخفاه التاريخ عن هؤلاء الرجال ولو بلمحة بسيطة عن كل شخصية، سوف تكون حافزاً للباحثين المتخصصين في إبراز الوجه الحضاري للأحساء على مر السنين، وذلك عن طريق تحقيق التراث العلمي والأدبي لعلماء الأحساء، وإبراز الحركة الثقافية والسياسية في تاريخ الأحساء.
وكان منهج المؤلف في إختيار الشخصيات والأعلام مماثلاً تقريباً لمنهج الأستاذ "أبا الغيث خير الدين الزركلي" في كتابه الأعلام، حيث جعل ميزان الإختيار لصاحب الترجمة علماً تشهد به تصانيفه، أو خلافة أو ملكاً أو إمارة، أو منصباً رفيعاً - كوزارة أو قضاء - كان له فيه أثر بارز، أو رياسة مذهب، أو فناً تميز به، أو شعراً، أو أصل نسب.
ونذكر بعض من أسماء هؤلاء: "إبراهيم بن حسن المحافظ"، "إبراهيم بن سليمان بن عفيصان"، إبراهيم آل شيخ مبارك"، "أجود بن زامل العقيلي"، "أحمد بن عفالق"، "أحمد بن زين الدين المطيرفي"...
