تنهض بأحداث هذه الرواية شخصيّتان واقعيّتان: الأولى شخصيّة الرجل الذي يسعى نحو إحقاق حقه في جائزة أدبيّة مرموقة، والثانية شخصيّة المرأة المتفانية التي، مع أنّها تواجه أعباء الحمل، غير أنّها تساعد الشخصية الأولى على تحقيق هدفها.
تسير الأحداث في خطين مختلفين يتخذان مساراً زمنياً مشوشاً، يتناغم مع الواقع الثقيل الذي يتحرك فيه، وتنتهي في شبه إنتصار وشبه إنكسار، إنتصار في الوصول إلى الحق بالجائزة، وإنهزام في فقدان المولود المنتظر.
يُقدّم القواسمة في هذه الرواية الواقع مُغيّراً في الأحداث تارة، وفي أسماء الشخصيات والأماكن تارة أخرى، ليرسم عالماً تخييليّاً أصدق مع هذا الواقع الذي نعيش فيه.
إن هذه الرواية تُشكل إضافة نوعيّة لإنجازات القواسمة في حقل الرواية، وبخاصة رواياته: أصوات في المخيم، شارع الثلاثين، والغياب، وسوق الإرهاب، والمحاصر.
