لقد تعلمت في "فلورنسا" فنّ الرّياء والتّملُّق والتّنهُد، بارتياح حين يدعوني الآخرون كلباً، وتعلمتُ الإنحناء بإذلالٍ مثل راهبٍ حافي القدمين... أتمنى أن أرى أولئك الأوغاد مُتحلّقين حول الموقد، يتضوّرون جوعاً، أو مُجتمعين في كنيسنا في إنتظار ما نُقدمه لهم من هبات وإحسان، وحين يأتي الدّور عليّ لتقديم هِبَتي، فإنني سوف أبصق في الطّبق قبل أن أقدمه لهم".
