يستأثر سؤال الحداثة بمساحة واسعة في خريطة النقاش المعرفي والسياسي في بلداننا، بعد أن تجاوزت إطارها الغربي، وأخذت بفعل عوامل عديدة تفرض نفسها على مجتمعات العالم المختلفة، لتشكل تحدياً مركزياً وأيديولوجية كاسحة، خاصة حين خُيّل للكثير أنها "الحداثة" بـ"أل" التعريف، أي لا مجال للحديث إلا عن نمط واحد من الحداثة ليس على مجتمعاتنا إلا الأخذ به، وهي بذلك تزحف بنا للركون إلى مطلقات لا تؤسس للخيال التداولي، ولا تراعي الخصوصية الحضارية، أي أنها حداثة فوقية لا تمت بصلة للجاهز الاجتماعي، بحيث يكون الشكل السياسي والاجتماعي الجديد مشوهاً أو حاملاً للفوضى من خلال أنماط من الحلول الحداثية الجاهزة.
أفضى هذا المسار الحداثي الدخيل، إلى بروز الخطاب الهوياتي المقاوم للحداثة، مع أنه يقف على منجزاتها التقنية؛ خطاب يُعلي من قيمة الذات التاريخية ويتمثلها كأفق للمستقبل، ويركن إلى الخصوصية كمقولة تُستدعى في سياق السِّجال مع الآخر، ويُغيب الرؤية العلمية الرصينة.
لأجل ذلك تُعد المقاربة المعرفية، التي تتغيا دراسة أصول الممارسة المعرفية والبنية العلمية للخطاب الحداثي، أمراً ذات قيمة محورية في أي مشروع للمراجعة، سواء على المستوى الغربي أو العربي، ذلك أن هذه المقاربة هي الكفيلة بكشف الأبعاد المرجعية الكامنة، والمؤسسة لتشكلات الحداثة وسيرورتها، وبالتالي تحقيق إمكان المراجعة والتقويم.
ما نصبوا إليه في هذا الكتاب، هو المساهمة في ترسيخ الوعي بضرورة المدخل المعرفي العلمي في دراسة موضوعة الحداثة، وفي تناول قضايا المجتمع والمعرفة عموماً، وما يعنيه ذلك من تعدُّد للمداخل المقاربة للموضوع حفاظاً على طبيعتها التركيبية.
