تقتضي المعالجة العقلية لثنائية الإجتهاد الإسلامي والحداثة، تعميقاً للبحث في أركيولوجيا الإنشاء لحقلين يتمايزا كلياً، فما يؤديه الإجتهاد من إعتراف بالأصول يعني بالنسبة للحداثة تجاوز لحق السؤال العقلي، وخروج عن حدود المبادرة المنهجية المؤسسة لكل معرفة ناجعة، تلك التي تنحصر في المعرفة الممحصة بوسائل العقل، بما أن فعل الحداثة يعني أصلاً وجوب إحداث النقد والتجاوز والمساءلة العقلية، ومن ثم فالحداثة تعكر صفو اليقين بالحقيقة الواحدة، وتفرض قلق البداية لتكون النهاية علامة على سيادة العقلانية.
هي سيادة تفرض ضرورة درء كل أطر التسليم والإعتقاد، فلا يقين يُبَدهُ المفاهيم ويفرضها فرضاً رأسياً، ليكون المقدس في حد ذاته أول موضوعات السؤال والنقد والقراءة المتحققة، إذ لا وجود لفعل يخترق حدود التاريخ، ولا يمكن للعقل أن يؤمن إلا بعدما يحقق اليقين، وقد أدى حقه في النقد وسار عبر طرائق الشك والتحليل، هي الخطوات الضرورية التي ألفت البنية الماهوية لعقل الأنوار، وقد تحول إلى مُسَائِلٌ أول عن مصداقية وصدقية المعارف الإنسانية.
