يمثل الكتاب ملخص لكتاب "كتائب أعلام الأخيار من فقهاء مذهب النعمان المختار" للمولى محمود بن سليمان الكفوي. وقد اختصره المؤلف وأضاف إليها زيادات قدم لها بقول: "قال الجامع" وعلق عليه بفوائد وتعليقات مهمة سماها: "التعليقات السنية"، والرسالة الثانية واسمها: "طرب الأماثل بتراجم الأفاضل"، ألفها بعد "الفوائد البهية" وجعلها منقسمة على سفرين: الأول في ذكر تراجم علماء من مذاهب مختلفة قصداً وذكر تأليفهم تبعاً. الثاني: مشتمل على شرح حال التأليفات المشهورة قصداً وذكر مصنفيها تبعاً.
وبالنظر لما يقدمه هذا الكتاب من موضوعات فقد اعتنى "أحمد الزعبي" بتحقيقه وبتحقيقه وبتقديمه للقارئ خالياً من الأخطاء اللغوية والمطبوعة ومذيلاً بعدد من الفهارس الخاصة التي تسهل الرجوع لى متن الكتاب.
