يتناول هذا الكتاب (من خلال 94 عملاً روائياً من 19 بلداً عربياً) موضوع الألوان في الرواية العربيّة من ناحية علميّة بحتة مبنيّة على التحليل الإحصائيّ والعدديّ، إضافةً إلى التحليلات اللغويّة.
وإن كان هناك الكثير من الأعمال النقديّة، الّتي تناولت اللون في الشعر والقرآن الكريم، إلاّ أنّ تناولت الموضوع من ناحية رمزيّة الألوان أو من ناحية لغويّة بحتة، مركّزة على قصيدة أو بضع قصائد أو بضعة شعراء.
أمّا كتابنا هذا فَيركّز أوّلاً على الأعمال الروائيّة، وهو شامل لكلّ العالم العربيّ ثانياً، ويحلّل اللون من مختلف النواحي عدداً ولغةً وجغرافيّةً ثالثاً.
والهدف من هذه الدراسة هو الإجابة على الأسئلة التالية: كيف يستخدم كتاب يكتّب والكاتبات العرب اللون في أعمالهم الأدبيّة، وبالأخصّ الأعمال الروائيّة؟ كما تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التوصّل إلى ما إذا كانت هنالك إختلافات بإستخدام الألوان في الروايات العربيّة على صعيد العالم العربيّ: على مستوى الدول والمناطق والجنس (إناث وذكور)، فالدراسة تحلّل الألوان المستخدمة لكلّ بلد، وجنس الكاتب، كما تحلّل كيفيّة إستخدام هذه الألوان في النصّ والشخصيّات، وهل تستخدم بعض الألوان بطريقة غريبة، أو لتعبّر عن موصوف بطريقة غريبة (كأن توصف الشمس على أنّها خضراء).
كما تركّز الدراسة على الصفة والموصوف، حيث تقارن بين الدول والكتّاب من ناحية وصفهم للأشياء وبأيّ لون وإن كان هنالك تطابق بين الدول أو المناطق العربيّة في هذا الوصف، أم أنّ للبيئة المحليّة تأثيراً فتخلق إختلافات بين كتّاب بلد وآخر.
