يهدف الكتاب لتعريف بالمؤسسات الإعلامية في الأردن وبيان أهميتها في تنمية شخصية الطفل كما يقوم الكتاب بنقد وسائل الإعلام من النواحي التي تؤثر على نمو الطفل اللغوي والفكري والأخلاقي.
وتناول الكتاب في الوحدة الأولى إعطاء فكرة عن وسائل الإعلام وأهدافها، وعالج في الوحدة الثانية التلفزيون والطفل فتحدث الكتاب عن خصائص التلفزيون والإعلامية وأسس اختيار برامج التلفزيون المحلية والعالمية والموجهة نحو الطفل، وتطرق في الوحدة الثالثة عن الإذاعة والطفل وعن البرامج الإذاعية وأثرها على نمو الطفل ونقد برامج الإذاعة المحلية الموجهة نحو الطفل، وفي الوحدة الرابعة تناول الصحافة الطفل والخصائص الإعلامية لصحافة وأساس اختيار المادة الصحفية المحلية والعربية للأطفال، وخصص الوحدة الخامسة للسينما وللطفل فتحدث عن أهداف الرقابة على أفلام السينما الموجهة إلى الطفل وأثر السينما على نمو الطفل المتكامل، أما الوحدة السادسة فتطرق فيها إلى الفيديو والطفل فعرف الفيديو وخصائصه الإعلامية وأثره على نمو الطفل وبيّن أوجه التشابه والاختلاف بين السينما والتلفزيون والفيديو وبيّن دور الأسرة في الاستخدام السليم للفيديو .
