تأتي هذه الدراسة لتسير في مجرى الدراسات الرحلية من خلال دراسة الملامح السردية للخطاب الرحلي الذي يتمتع بخصوصية سردية، وتتأكد تلك الخصوصية من خلال إستخراج أنساق المتخيل، والسعي لمعرفة كيفية إشتغاله في مدونة الرحلة، فالمقاربة السردية حسب ما تذهب هذه الدراسة يمكن أن تشرح لنا بعض الجوانب لا تسعفنا المقاربة الأنثروبولوجية فيها بتأويلات وجيهة، ارتأت الباحثة الإستعانة بهاتين المقاربتين وسيلة لفحص المدونة قيد الدرس.
اعتمدت الباحثة في دراستها هذه نصيين رحليين أحدهما من القرن الثالث (رحلة السيرافي)، الذي يعد أقدم وثيقة إثنوغرافية واصفة لعادات الصين والهند وطقوسهم وأنظمتهم الإقتصادية والقضائية والسلطانية.
أما النص الآخر فيعود إلى القرن السادس (تحفة الألباب ونخبة الإعجاب) لأبي حامد الغرناطي، الذي دون خلاله رحلته التي انطلقت من الأندلس إلى مصر عام 508هـ ثم رجع إلى الأندلس، فغادرها ماراً بساردينيا، فصقلية، ثم الإسكندرية، فالقاهرة، وفي عام 516هـ ارتحل إلى بغداد ثم أبهر في إيران، ثم عبر بحر قزوين حتى وصل إلى مصب نهر الفولجا، ثم ارتحل إلى خوارزم، وفي عام 545هـ كان في بلغار، وغادرها إلى الموصل ثم عاد إلى بغداد عام 557هـ وانتهى به المطاف إلى دمشق حتى توفي ودفن فيها عام 565.
الدراسة تنقسم إلى فصلين، "ملامح الخطاب الرحلي في رحلتي السيرافي والغرناطي" و "أنساق المتخيل في رحلتي السيرافي والغرناطي" خصصته الباحثة لمقاربة توظف المتخيل أداة لدراسة الخطاب الرحلي بوصفه المعطى المتشكل تاريخياً في الذاكرة الإجتماعية.
والدراسة إذ تراوح بين السردي والمتخيل فإنها تفترض، كما عبرت الباحثة في مقدمتها، مساراً وصفياً وتحليلياً يتوسل النظرية السردية لفهم خصائص السرد في كلا النصين، دراسة فيها جدة وإجتهاد ورصانة في البحث تشكل إضافة إلى البحوث التي أُنجزت في هذا الحقل، استحقت عليها جائزة ابن بطوطة للدراسات.
ولأهمية هذا البحث وما يترسمه من خلال الرحلات ويضيء عليه من علاقة المغرب بالمشرق عبر أدب الرحلة، وإستناداً إلى عشرات المصادر القيمة، استحقت صاحبته عنه بجدارة "جائزة ابن بطوطة للدراسات" في أدب الرحلة.
