نظم شعراء الطليعة وغير الطليعة في معركة "العبور" أشعاراً سجلها تاريخ الأدب العربي الحديث، ولكن لم نجد شاعراً أطال الوقوف على أمجاد هذه المعركة كما صنع الشاعر المصري محمد كمال الدين إمام صاحب هذا الديوان، الذي سجل بين صفحاته نشوة انتصارات رائعة حققها المقاتل المصري الباسل، وأحسن الشاعر محمد كمال إمام التعبير عنها في لغة سهلة، وألفاظ رقيقة، ومعانٍ سامية، وخيال غير متكلف ولا مصطنع.
يضم الكتاب الأعمال الشعرية الكاملة للدكتور محمد كمال إمام وهي: 1- الديوان الأول: أغنيات لبلادي ويضم الجزء الأول: شمس رمضان، والجزء الثاني: غيم يونيو، والجزء الثالث: عزف منفرد على الغربة.2- الديوان الثاني: أميرة عيد الحصاد ويضم: القسم الأول: قاع المدينة، القسم الثاني: أناشيد صغيرة، القسم الثالث: صلاة فراشة. –الديوان الثالث: في انتظار الكلمات، ويضم ستة وثلاثون قصيدة. 4- الديوان الخامس: كتابة على الرمال ويضم قصائد جديدة منها: حديقة عشق، عاشقة القراءة، إليها، شاطء الأحلام، انتظار... وقصائد أخرى.
من قصيدة "العملاق" التي نظمها صاحب هذا الديوان بمناسبة ذكرى (العقاد) والتي لا تخرج من مسار الوجدان المتيقظ في نفس الشاعر نقرأ:
لم أكن دميتها المستسلمة، ولا ولا كانت أناشيدي أمه/ لم أصفق أبدا لم أمتهن، كلماتي والخطى متهمه/ لم أضع في زحمة الخوف ولا، صافحت كفي أياد مجرمه/ كنت للفجر وإني لم أزل، لك يا فجر أصوغ الملحمة(...)".
يذكر أن إصدار هذا الديوان جاء برعاية لجنة الشعر بالمجلس الأعلى لرعاية الفنون والآداب والعلوم الإجتماعية في مصر، تشجيعاً وتأييداً للأدب والفن المتميز في البلاد.
