الاصطلاحات الفنية والعلمية هي ضرورة مطلقة للاتصال بوسائله المتعددة. ومن بين العديد من المصطلحات البيولوجية جرى في هذا المعجم اختيار ما يربو على الثلاثة آلاف من أكثرها ثباتاً وشيوعاً وتردداً في الأوساط العلمية وفي المناهج الدراسية لمدارس اللغات والجامعات. كما وتمّ إيراد بعض المعلومات والإيضاحات عن كل اصطلاح. ولتسهيل اطلاع القارئ تمّ ترتيب المصطلحات في المعجم ترتيباً يتب اللغة الإنجليزية، كما ووضع ما يقابله بالمعنى باللغة العربية وكلاهما وردا بالبنط الأسود. واسفل المصطلح باللغة الإنجليزية تم وضع المصطلح باللغة الفرنسية بالبنط المائل، هذا وذيّل المعجم بفهارس باللغتين الفرنسية والعربية، وهذه جاءت مرتبة هجائياً ولهذا يمكن البحث عن المدخل من أي من اللغات الثلاث. وقد تمّ الإشارة إلى رقم الاصطلاح في الفهارس وليس رقم الصفحة لسرعة الوصول إلى الاصطلاح المراد معرفة معناه أو معلومات عنه. وروعي في كتابه المعلومات عن الاصطلاح أن يُفهم من السياق أنه ينتمي إلى علم النبات، أو علم الحيوان، أو علم الوراثة، أو علم الأجنة، أو علم الاستنساخ.
