هل من الممكن أن يموت هذا المخلوق؟ كم تمنت ذلك لكنها لم تتوقع حصوله! فهل تزغرد الآن, لأنها سترتاح من اليوم فصاعداً من الألم الذي سببه لها؟ وإذا فرحت فمن سيشاركها فرحها؟ هل سيأتي أولادها ويقيمون مآدب فرح؟ أم هل تبكي على الأيام التي قضتها معه دون أن تحقق ذاتها؟ ما الذي تخرف به يارجل, أمن رجل علم وتعليم وقائد سياسي.. الى سمان؟ لا تجزعي يا امرأة, فأنا منذ وقت طويل تخليت عن طموحاتي, ولم يبق لي سوى متابعة الحياة بطريقة المتفرج, وليس أفضل من الدكان وسيلة للتفرج على ما يحدث في الخارج. حين نظرت الى الأرض, مفتشاً عن البطيخة, وجدتها قطعاً متناثرة حولي ويدي قابعة في أسفلها على أرض الرصيف, كانت بيضاء حامضة! وهو ما يشير الى حظي العاثر, فلم أشهد بياضاً قط إلا في البطيخ! كنت أول من نصح الملاحين بإدارة دفة المركب الى اليسار.. ولكني لم أتورع شخصياً عن التوجه يميناً, حين تكون الريح مناسبة لي! لكن دون أن أتخلى عن الشراع الأحمر أبداً! في خضم هذه الوليمة التاريخية سمع الجمع شهقة من جرذ.. نظروا حولهم.. وإذ بهم يفاجأون.. بملك التقمص الجرذي الذي بايعوه منذ قليل.. قد وقع صريعاً. عمهم الذهول لثوان! فقد كان موته نذير سوء في هذه المناسبة الجليلة.. لكنهم سرعان ما استعادوا وعيهم.. وهجم بعضهم على الجثة الجديدة.. ينهشون! هكذا ينوس بنا المؤلف من الاجتماعي القاسي الى السياسي, مروراً بالانتهازية اليسارية, وصولاً الى عالم النهش السياسي والوطني, تاركاً لقارئه عكس ما عاشه ويعيشه من صور في الحياة العملية على قصصه أو أبطالها.
