بالإضافة إلى مكانته بين علماء اللغة العربية في المشرق احتل سيبويه مكانة هامة عند علماء المغرب والأندلس. إذ يتضح أثر مؤلفاته في مؤلفات علماء العروتين (المغرب والأندلس) حتى يمكن القول أنه لولا كتاب سيبويه لا وجود للنحو عند الأندلسيين وقد عد كتاب سيبويه ذُروة في التأليف النحوي حيث ظل محتفظاً بمكانته طوال قرون عديدة. وقد وضعت الأراجيز للمبتدئين والقاصدين عن إدراك مسائل هذا الكتاب. غير أن الكتب التي يعرضها المؤلف هي أفضل ما وضعه علماء اللغة من شروح على كتاب سيبويه.
في الباب الأول يعرض المؤلف كتاب الاستدراك أو أبنية كتاب سيبويه لأبي بكر الزبيدي، وبعد أن يفرد فصلاً لدراسة حياة الزبيدي ومكانة سيبويه في كتابه ينتقل إلى الحديث عن جهده في مناقشة الزيادة التي استدركها على سيبويه. أما الباب الثاني فخصصه لشروح الكتاب في الأندلس مثل شرح أي نصر القرطبي المسمى تفسير عيون سيبوبه الذي بدأه بتفسير "ها" من قول سيبويه هذا علم ما الكلم من العربية. ثم ينتقل إلى دراسة شرح الأعلم الشنتمري "النكت" والشنتمري هو يوسف بن سليمان بن عيسى بن سليمان أبا الحجاج الشنتمري. والكتاب تفسير على سيبويه وبيان الخفي من لفظه وشرح أبياته وعيونه وقيمة الشرح تكمن في أنه استطاع أن يوجز ويلخص شرح أبي سعيد.
