بعد أن قضى المربي الأستاذ إلياس متري عازار ردحاً من الزمن في حقل التربية والتعليم، يقدم لنا اليوم تجربة جديدة ومغايرة وهو منجزه الشعري "من دفاتري" ليكون علامة فارقة في خارطة المشهر الشعري الحديث، معتنياً بالأسلوبية المتسمة بالصنعة الشعرية الدقيقة، والزخرفة الفنية بذهنية عالية ووعي شعري خاص.
قدم للديوان بكلمة الأستاذ كمال ذبيان يقول فيها: "لقد فعل حسناً الأستاذ المربي الياس عازار، أن اصدر ديوانه الشعري، لنقرأ فيه ذكرياته، ففي كل قصيدة عنوان ومناسبة، فيؤرخ في شعره مراحل في حياته، ويطبع في قصائده أحداثاً عاشها، ويعبّر في أشعاره عن فهمه وتفسيره للحياة التي كتب عنها أفخم العبارات، وأحلى الصور، وأعمق المعاني، عن الوطن، والشهادة، والحب، والفراق، والإغتراب، والتربية والتعليم، والعائلة، والبيت، والقرية (...). في الكتاب استعادة لذكريات، ومضمون لمعنى الحياة، وتدوين لمشاعر إنسانية وفيه يشخص أمامنا، الأب، والمعلم، والحبيب، والزوج، والوطني".
من قصيدته المعنونة بـ "تغريد" نقرأ للشاعر أبيات يقول فيها:
"صوت البلابل في الصباح / تنعش في القلب الجراح / تطربني تفرحني وتنعشني / على نغماتها أغفو وأرتاح / أقف على الشرفة أرقبها / فكل شيء لشدوها مباح / تتحداني تحط بقربي / وغناؤها أرقى سلاح / سلاحها النغم الجميل / موزع في كل ناح (...)".
يضم الديوان ما يقارب المائة قصيدة في الشعر العربي الحديث واللغة المحكية اللبنانية توزعت إلى ثلاثة اقسام، القسم الأول: وطنيات، القسم الثاني: إجتماعيات، والقسم الثالث: غزليات.
