يتحدث هذا الكتاب عن قضية الورثة الذين يضيعون تراث الآباء العظيم ويسرفون في سحب الأرصدة الشعبية الهائلة التي بذلها آباؤهم، وتتحدث عن المصالح الضيقة والمكاسب الصغيرة وضيق الأفق السياسي وكيف تتحول القضايا الكبيرة عند صغار السلاطين والحكام إلى سلعة قابلة للتداول والمساومة.
في هذا الكتاب تجد حقائق مؤلمة عن التفريط السياسي بحق المدينة المقدسة في الحقبة الأيوبية بعد الإنجاز الكبير الذي حققه مؤسس الدولة صلاح الدين الأيوبي وقيادته وأمته الملتفة حوله، ويتحدث عن انهيار شعبية السلطة الأيوبية وسقوط هيبتها واحترامها بين الناس بسبب ذلك عدة مرات، وهو الأمر الذي أدى من جملة ما أدى إلى انهيار الدول الأيوبية بسرعة على يد مماليكهم العسكريين، وتفاصيل ذلك مما أورده الكتاب غنية بالدروس السياسية التي يجب أن يقرأها صانع القرار السياسي الفلسطيني والعربي والذي باتت جرأة بعض النافذين فيه عجيبة في إعادة تاريخ من سقطوا قبلهم ممن فرط في المسجد الأقصى ومدينة بيت المقدس عبر اتفاقات أو تفاهمات أو محادثات أو استعدادات تتلخص كلها في أنها تفريط حقيقي بهذه المدينة.
