هي قصة آدم وحوّاء، تتكرر مع بسام وريما، ظنّ بأنها نصفه الآخر وهي ليست نصفاً... هي شخص يعرف نفسه جيداً ويبحث عن كامل آخر... أما هو فظل يبحث عن نفسه... "رجلٌ لا ينام هو رجل مهزوم يدّعي النصر؟"...
تدور أحداث الرواية أثناء وبعد أحداث الحرب اللبنانية داخل لبنان وخارجه وتركز على مسؤولية الإنسان عن إختياراته في الحياة، بما فيها العمل والدراسة والحب وإختيار الشريك (الزواج)، وتقول بتأثر الإنسان فيما يتخذه من مواقف وقرارات بماضيه" فالماضي لا ينفك يطاردنا ويتحكم بحاضرنا ومستقبلنا، وما لم ننجح في التحرر منه سنبقى أسراه وضحاياه.
في تظهر الرواية، يستخدم علي زعيتر خطاباً روائياً يقوم على كسر وحدة الراوي، كسر خطية الزمن، تعدد صيغ الكلام، وتعدد مستويات اللغة والمزاوجة بين السرد والحوار، ولكلِّ من هذه المقومات وظيفته في النص، وبهذه التقنيات وسواها، قدم الروائي زعيتر نصاً روائياً جميلاً، واقعياً، وهادفاً، يشكل إضافة مهمة في مسيرته الروائية.
