"أيها الولد" هي رسالة صنفها الإمام أبو حامد الغزالي استجابة لطلب أحد طلابه الذي اشتغل بالتحصيل وقراءة العلم على الإمام حتى جمع دقائق العلوم، واستكمل فضائل النفس، وتاقت نفسه إلى معرفة نوع العلوم الذي ينفعه ويؤنسه في قبره، أي ما يكون زاده إلى آخرته.
والرسالة بمضمونها هي في التصوف والغزالي يحمل في "أيها الولد" على الصوفية لما وقعوا فيه من الغلو والوهم في "الشطح" وفي رفع أصواتهم (بالذكر والدعاء) ليعلن أن الصوفية الصحيحة تتميز بشيئين: بالصلاح مع الله تعالى وبالمسالمة مع الناس، وكذلك أعلن أن أربعة أمور هي من مستلزمات الصوفي. الإيمان الخالص من كل بدعة، ثم التوبة النصوح التي لا يرجع الإنسان بعدها إلى المعصية، ثم إرضاء الخصوم كيلا يكون لهم حجة عليه، ثم الوصول إلى قدر من معرفة الشرع يكفل له أن يؤدي ما أمر الله تعالى به.
ويجيء الغزالي في الفصول المتتالية إلى الكلام على مقامات الصوفية المختلفة كالورع والرضا والإخلاص وما سوى ذلك. بعدئذ يحاول أن يتأوّل ذلك تأولاً ينطبق على الحياة اليومية. وأخيراً يلفت الغزالي إلى ثمانية أمور، ليتجنب منها أربعة، وليعمل بها بأربعة. وتأتي هذه الطبعة مترجمة إلى اللغة الفرنسية.
