ليس على سطح الأرض لغة أجمل من اللغة العربية. ولا كلمات أرق من كلماتها، ولا حروف أعذب من حروفها عندما تداعب الحلق واللسان والشفاه، فتخرج إلى الأذن كالموسيقى فلا تخدشها، وإلى العقل فلا تثيره، بل ترويه وتنبهه. وهي لغة عظيمة، نغم لا يهدأ، ومعاني لا تنضب، يمكن الاستفاضة بسردها، ويمكن الإيجاز لذا يمكن القول بأن العرب هم أسياد الكلمة المنحوتة والموجزة التي تعبر عن الذات والمآرب بأقل ما يمكن. فالإيجاز هو صفة العربي. وفي التاريخ العربي كلمات مختصرة تدل على عبقرية العرب في اختصار التجار الإنسانية بجمل قصيرة هي أقرب للحكمة أكثر مما هي اختصار، بحيث تبلغ مبلغ الإعجاز وقد جمع المؤلف في كتابه هذا طائفة من حكم وأقوال العرب المأثورة تعبر في جميع مآربها عن الإبداع اللغوي عند الإنسان العربي دالة في مجملها على القول المأثور خير الكلام ما قل ودل.
يتناول كتاب "كنوز العرب" ثلاثاً وثلاثين مقولة من مقولات العرب التي اختصرت التجارب الإنسانية بعبارات موجزة، ذهبت، جميعاً، أمثالاً وحكماً ما زالت تردد حتى عصرنا هذا.
وقد عرضنا لكل مقولة، من مقولات هذا الكتاب، شرحاً مفصلاً للمناسبة التي قيلت فيها. وبالطبع فقد جاء شرحاً وافياً ومدروساً بعناية، لما استغرقناه من وقت في بحثنا عن مناسبة كل مقولة وتدقيقنا فيها وتأكيدنا على صحتها.
كما ارتأينا أن خير ما نستهلّ به كتابنا "كنوز العرب" نبذة عن أقوال الرسول (ص) التي جاءت بعبارات قليلة الكلمات، عميقة المعاني، بلغت مبلغ الإعجاز والأعجوبة، حتى صارت حِكَماً ما زالت تُردد في مشارق الأرض ومغاربها، فضلاً عن أقوال وحِكَم للخلفاء الراشدين الأربعة (رض).
