أنزل الباري تبارك وتعالى على أنبيائه العظام كتباً بها أحكام وحكم ومواعظ، وهذه الكتب لم تكن المعجز الأساسي لهؤلاء الأنبياء كنبينا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بل كانت معاجزهم شتّى متفرقة كُلٌّ في مناسبته لتتناسب مع إمكانيات الذين أرسلوا إليهم فيظهر لهؤلاء أبعاد المعجزة وتَفقهها قلوبهم وإن كانوا لها كارهون، أما الكتب التي أرسلت إليهم فهي ليستعين الناس على أمور دينهم ودنياهم وقد تضمنت من الحكم والأمثال ما يكفي المرء العاقل من الاعتبار وأخذ الموعظة. وفي هذا الكتاب يجمع المؤلف بعضاً من الوصايا والعظات التي جاءت بها الكتب السماوية (القرآن الكريم، التوراة، الزبور...) والتي تحتوي على وصاياه جلّ وعلا إلى الأنبياء والمرسلين.
