إن معركة ميسلون نجمة ستظل متألقة في سماء سورية مهما مر الزمن ويوسوف العظمة سيبقى أب الشهداء وإذا أردنا أن نعرف قيمة هذا الرجل في حياة سورية يكفي أن نتساءل هل كانا لنا أن نفخر بمعركة ميسلون لولا وقفة العز التي وقفها يوسف العظمة في مرتفعات عقبة الطين في صباح يوم السبت 24/تموز/1920؟ إن يوسف كان يرى أن المهمة الأساسية للجيش هي أن يدافع عن الوطن وأن المعارك لا تقاس بنتائجها العسكرية المباشرة فحسب وإنما ينظر إلى نتائجها الوطنية والقومية على المدى البعيد وقد بذل المؤلف جهداً كبيراً وهو يجمع ما قاله عشرون من فطاحل شعراء العرب حول موضوع معركة ميسلون وعن شخصية الشهيد يوسف العظمة المثال الذي يحتذى والقدوة التي بها يقتدى في الأمس وفي اليوم وفي الغد فالصفحة النضالية التي كتبها في التاريخ النضالي لأن كتاب الصفحة ذاته خضب سطورها بدمه عندما عانق الشهادة واستشهد فقضى بطلاً عملاقاً يحيا في ذاكرة وضمير الأجيال .
