"إلى أدباء أمريكا، قرأنا رسائلكم، وقلنا ربما يخضر جدب الأرض، وتورق بيننا الأيام والأحلام. تمزج في ضياء الفجر نور الشعر، وغني من تراب الفكر، بعض التبر. نهاديكم ورود الشرق، نحييكم بوجه طلق، وندعوكم لقول الحق. أيا أدباء أمريكا.. تناسيتم عذاباً راح يصلينا، تناسيتم أمانينا، وما جئتم ونار القهر تضرم في صحارينا. أمن ألم تذكرتم مآسينا؟ إذن. ما مرّ من تاريخنا المجبول بالآلام يكفيكم ويكفينا وما كنا أعاديكم وما كنتم أعادينا. ولكن السياسات الدنيئة ما تزال تقوّض الحلم الذي صنعناه من آلام حاضرنا ومن أطياف ماضينا".
