يقول المؤلف في مقدمة كتابه هذا أن الباعث على كتابته لهذه الورقات "هو ما يجري على ألسنة بعض الناس المتسرعين، من ابتسار في الفهم لما كتبه الإمام "حسن البنا" وما كتبه الشهيد "سيد قطب" رحمهما الله تعالى. وبخاصة علاقة الأستاذ سيد قطب وما كتب بمدرسة الأستاذ البناء، وبحسب قوله أن بعض الناس قاموا بطرح كلام مفاده أن للأستاذ سيد قطب مدرسة، وللأستاذ حسن البنا مدرسة أخرى، بل إنهما مدرستان متناقضتان. وإن للأستاذ سيد قطب منهجاً في التغيير يغاير منهج الأستاذ البناء، فالإمام قطب واضح في تفكيره، واضح في نظرته للناس وللأنظمة والمجتمع.
وذلك نتيجة تأثره بالمحنة التي مرت عليه، والتي هي سجنه وهذه المحنة أدت إلى تشدده وإلى نظره للمجتمع والحكومات بنظرة سوداوية. بينما حسن البنا، في زعم هؤلاء له منهج يخالف هذا المنهج ويخالف ما نسبوا إلى سيد قطب من أقوال، فهو يرى الأنظمة القائمة إسلامية، وتطبق الإسلام، والحكام تخرجوا من مدرسة الإسلام والحكومات إسلامية، والمجتمعات التي تحكم بغير ما أنزل الله مجتمعات إسلامية، والدساتير والقوانين المنبثقة عنها إسلامية وهو لا يرى العنف والقسوة، كما يرى الأستاذ سيد قطب. إذا الهدف من هذا الكتاب هو تبيان الحقيقة وإيضاح علاقة الشهيد سيد قطب بمدرسة الشهيد حسن البنا رحمهما الله تعالى.
