لقد لاحظ الكاتب أن الحقول المعرفية المتصلة بالنص مشتتة وليس بينها أية جسور.فكان هدفه فل عزلتها واستقلاليتها بهدف ربط الاتصال بينها.ولهذا، حاول تطوير إطار نظري يمكن من تجميع العلوم والفنون المتصلة بالنص بالرغم من أنها تختلف على مستوى الوضع الابستيمولوجي و الأكاديمي والأهداف و المناهج. ترتكز المهام الأساسية لدلالة النصوص على ثلاثة اتجاهات متقاربة: أولها تأسيس دلالة موحدة بالنسبة لثلاث درجات من الوصف(درجة الكلمة والجملة والنص)، وثانيها إعداد طبقات لتصنيف النصوص (الأدبية والأسطورية، العلمية والتقنية) وثالثها تطوير هذه النظريات الوصفية وربطها بالمعالجة الآلية للنصوص. يكتظ الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا بمفاهيم ومصطلحات تنتمي إلى مختلف الحقول المعرفية المتصلة باللغة و النص: المعنى، الدلالة اللفظية، التناص، السمات الدلالة، الركيزة، التفكيك، الشفرة، الطوبوس، المعنى المشترك، السياق، الفهم، التأويل،...الخ. ولقد حاول المترجم التدقيق في كل ما تقدم لمنحه المعنى الذي توخاه له الكاتب.
