أفترض مثلا أنّ زوجي سيطرح سؤاله الصباحي : "ماذا سنطبخ هذا اليوم؟".... وعندما يعود من الخارج أفترض أنني سأطرح سؤالي المسائي : "هل قابلت أحدا في المقهى؟" ثمّ نجلس صامتين نفكر في أصدقائنا الذين ماتوا. أطبخ يوميا الأطباق نفسها مع تنويعات شاحبة لا تنجح كثيرا في الإيهام بالتغيير، نجلس للأكل بلا شهية، بلا ضجيج حياة، بلا أولاد وبلا سعادة... نتابع النشرة الزوالية بلا تعليق، نتأمل وجه المذيعة الشابة ونفكر في الوقت نفسه أنّ العالم كان سيكون أفضل لولا نشرات الأخبار... ثمّ يتطوع أحدنا بإسكات التلفزيون ليتّجه كل منّا بعد ذلك إلى غرفته...... (سأكون في هذه اللحظة قد حققت بالتأكيد ولو متأخرة، ذلك المطلب الذي يلتقي ربّما بمطلب فيرجينيا وولف الشهير في امتلاك غرفة خاصّة)... فيتفشّى الصمت ثانية في البيت... قيلولة بلا منبّه وبلا سقف زمني ... قيلولة متقاعدين.
