هو ذا كتاب الفيلسوف الدمشقي داماسكيوس "حياة إيزيدور" ، أو "التاريخ الفلسفي" ، كما يفضل أن يسميه بعض الباحثين ، بات متاحاً لقراء العربية، بعد أكثر من خمسة عشر قرناً على تأليفه. مر خلالها برحلة طويلة من النسخ والإجتزاء والإبتسار، كادت أن تضعه في جملة المصادر المعقودة، لولا اللاهوتي اليوناني فوتيوس، من أبناء القرن التاسع الميلادي الذي حفظ معظم أجزائه من الضياع، رغم عبثه بترتيب الفقرات واجتزائه منها.
كتاب الفيلسوف الدمشقي هذا، شهادة بالغة الصدق عن عصر كانت فيه سوريا ومصر جزءاً من الحضارة الهلنستية، وهو جزء فاعل ومؤثر وصانع لهذه الحضارة، ولو استعرضنا أسماء الفلاسفة والأطباء الدمشقيين الذين ذكرهم المؤلف في طيات كتابه هذا، على سبيل المثال لا الحصر، لأدركنا مقدار المساهمة التي قدمتها هذه المدينة العريقة لتاريخ البشرية.
