سلمى مرشاق سليم من مواليد القاهرة لوالدين من خارج مصر، حيث تعود جذورها، من جهة الأب إلى قرية النبك السورية، ومن جهة الأم إلى قرية جون الشوفية اللبنانية، وقد نشأت وتعلمت في مصر.
يتفرد مشروع الباحثة اللبنانيّة الأصل، المصريّة الجنسية، سلمى مرشاق سليم بكونه يعمل على شخصيات لبنانية أسهمت إسهاما بارزاً في النهضة الثقافية والإبداعية التي شهدتها مصر ابتداء من أواخر القرن التاسع عشر وحتى منتصف القرن العشرين، حيث قدمت كتاباً ضخماً موثقاً للأديب إبراهيم المصري الذي كان له حضور مهم في الثقافة المصرية من خلال مجلته "الأدب الحي".
كما صدر لها مؤخراً عن دار الجديد ببيروت كتاب عن نقولا الحداد الصيدلي، بعنوان "نقولا حداد ، الأديب العالم" .

"إبراهيم المصري" المولود في القاهرة مطلع القرن العشرين، أحد الكتاب النابغين في التراجم الأدبية والبحوث الاجتماعية وقد فتح في الدراسات التسوية آفاقاً واسعة عن شخصية المرأة وطبيعتها، كتب القصة فأبدع فيها وابتكر أسلوباً قصصياً جديداً يمتاز بالروح الشعرية مقترنة بالنزعة التحليلية ورسم الواقع.
وفي هذا الكتاب تقدم المؤلفة مدخلاً بيبلوغرافياً لمؤلفات إبراهيم المصري، حيث اعتمدت الأسلوب المرجعي لكي يكون هذا الكتاب مستنداً يعتمده كل من يرغب في دراسة مؤلفات المصري. وقد بدأت الكاتبة بجمع الدراسات والمقالات التي نشرها المصري في البلاغ، ومجموعاته القصصية والمسرحيات التي تتصف بالواقعية والصرامة، وتتميز بالتحليل النفسي الفرويدي، إما بصورة واضحة مباشرة أو عبر تصوير لحظات المعاناة القاسية التي تنم عن القلق الداخلي والمشاعر المضطربة المتناقضة التي تتجاذب شخصيات القصة.
