والأفضلية تتفاوت من شخص إلى آخر تبعاً لأمور متعددة، تعود إلى المنظومة الفكرية وإدراك مدى أهمية وقيمة الأمور المعطاة، التي تشكل بدائل يجب وضعها في سلمٍ تقديري لتحقيق استقرار نفسي وعقلي، وقد تراوحت بين قيم قصوى بسيطة في بعض الأحيان ومعقّدة في أحيانٍ أخرى؛ لأنها تسعى إلى تحقيق التوازن بين البديل الذي يشكل الأفضل، والنتيجة أو الهدف المتوخّى من عملية الاختيار، وهذا يظهر في قوله تعالى: ""ولقد كرّمنا بني آدم وحملناهم في البرّ والبحر ورزقناهم من الطيّبات وفضّلناهم على كثير ممّن خلقنا تفضيلا"" (الإسراء: 70).
