عن هذه المختارات يقول النقبي في مقدمة كتابه ".. إن النثر هو الذي تصدر هذا الكتاب لكونه لغة التخاطب بين البشر، وبه يتم التدوين في شتى مجالات الحياة، وبه يتم التدوين في شتى مجالات الحياة، وبه تنقل الحضارات والثقافات والترجمات، لذلك فإن الكتب السماوية التي خاطب تنقل الحضارات والثقافات والترجمات، لذلك فإن الكتب السماوية التي خاطب الله سبحانه وتعالى عباده بها عن طريق رسله، تلك المخاطبات والتوجيهات كانت تتم بلغة النثر، وآخر كتاب أنزله الله على عباده هو القرآن الكريم الذي نزل على أمة تمتهن الخطابة أولاً والشعر ثانياً، (...) فالكتاب العزيز وهو حجة الله البالغة على خلقه نزل نثراً تحدى به البلاغة العربية... وفي هذا المعنى يقول الله تعالى: "قل لئن اجتمعت الإنس والجن على أن يأتوا يمثل هذا القرءان لا يأتون بمثله، ولو كان بعضهم لبعض ظهيراً".
يتكأ الكتاب في معظم مواده على تفسير الشيخ القرطبي في كتابه الجامع لأحكام القرآن. بالإضافة إلى الأحايث الشريفة والأسانيد الصحاح التي تحث المسلم بالتمسك بالمنهج الرباني والسنة النبوية التي يرى فيها المؤلف الطريق المستقيم لبلوغ السعادة في الدنيا والآخرة.
يحفَل الكتاب بتفسيرات رائعة يحتاجها كا مسلم مثل: إصطفاء الله لعباده، المتقون، هو الرزاق، كل يوم هو في شأن، عصا موسى، إضافة إلى الكثير من أسرار القرآن الكريم والحكم والمواعظ وأخبار الملوك وشيء من روائع الشعر الجاهلي، وتعريف بالشعراء وقصائدهم ومآثرهم ومتفرقات من هنا وهناك...
