مالك هذا الفندق رجل مستنير، خير، أبعد عن بله لظروف خاصة، وبالرغم من رحابة صدره فلقد ضاق ذرعاً بأفكار بعض القادمين من وطنه. لعله كوي سابقاً بنار أفكار جامدة جعلته يعيش في المنف. فأخذ عهداً على نفسه بأن يحرر العقول من ثباتها. وإذ رأى في هذا البلد المتقدم من الأدوات العلمية ما يحير النفوس، ومن التقنيات الحديثة ما يسبر أفكار العقول، فلقد اشترى هذا الجهاز رفقاً بأبناء بلده. ربما ستتهمينه بغرابة الأطوار عندما تعلمين أنه يتقد شوقاً كل مساء لحضور المناقشات التي تدور في ردهة الفندق. فيصطاد منها شخصاً توقعه تحليلاته الخاطئة في شرك هذا الجهاز, وانه أزمع أن يكون تحرير العقول من طغيان تعصبها الأشد خزياً أحد أهم مشاريعه الفكرية التي سيحققها بهذا الجهاز. تململت في مكاني شاردة اللب. إذاً فأنا الآن في فخ محكم الصنع. راودني شعور باليأس, وكنت مشوشة إلى حد ما. وإذ أوشكت على البكاء اكتسحني خوف عارم كالفيضان حين سمعت صوت يأمرني بنبرة مستبدة: اضغطي على زر مراجعة الذات, ثم اعيدي قراءة ما كتبت في غرفة النسخ.
