"هذا زمان الحب والشعر، أحياه وعدا شيقاً يغري، وأعيشه حلماً يشاغلني، ما بين عشق البيض والسمر، بهما أجدد من زمان مضى، وأروح كالنشوان من سكر، والسمر كأس من نبيذ هوى، يهفو إليها ظامئ الثغر، يا من تسائلني هواك لمن، فأقول أن قد حار بي أمري، وزعت أيامي لهن وما، أتغبت من كر ومن فر، إني عشقت ولم أزل كلفاً، وبذلت من أجل الهوى عمري، وبقال شبت ولم تتب لم لا، ما دام نهر الحب بي يجري؟، ما أجمل الدنيا إذا ازدحمت، باغيد، والأحلام، والزهر، عهدي لها أني أظل هوى، أنا لست أخفي في الهوى سري".
عبد الكريم شمس الدين القمة الخضراء، الشاعر العربي اللبناني العاملي الكبير والذي ازدحم شعره على مدى نصف قرن من الزمن بهذه الأق كلها، نحن معه أمام شاعر ما زال ينزف شعراً وجمالاً منذ ما يقارب الخمسة عقود. شاعر يذكرنا في أولئك الشعراء الكبار الذين أدركوا أنه لا يوجد مجد فوق مجد الشعر فلم يحاولوا أن يلتمسوا مجداً من مكان آخر ذلك أن تاج الشعر هو الذي يبقى عندما تتساقط التيجان عن رؤوس الملوك والأباطرة.
لم يكن عبد الكريم شمس الدين شاعراً بالمعنى التسجيلي الخطابي. ولكنه كان شاعراً إنسانياً، نبرته في غناء همه القومي. كانت تنبع من هذه الخصوصية التي ينتمي إليها خصوصية الجنوب وجبل عامل هذه الخصوصية التي تنفتح عن هذه الأبعاد القومية و... والإنسانية.
وعبد الكريم لم يكتف بغناء الآلام والآمال على صعيد الوطن العربي وعلى صعيد الوطن الصغير، ولكنه غنى كل الأشياء الجميلة في هذا العالم.
غنى المرأة وغنى العشب، وغنى النهر، وغنى كل مؤشر من مؤشرات الجمال على نحو يتوجه شاعراً حقيقياً شاعراً كما قلنا في البداية لا يبحث عن مجد خارج مجد الشعر ويعرف أن كل الذين حاولوا أن يلتمسوا مجداً إضافياً فيما هم يفعلون ذلك كانوا يخسرون مجد الشعر فيحسرون حل شيء لأن الشعر هو لغة الحوار الأسنى بين الإنسان والكون.
