موسى بن نصير، تابعي جليل، وعلم من الأعلام، وقائد فذ من خيرة مشاهير العرب. سيرته تاريخ حافل بالكفاح والطموح، وحياته مثال للعربي المسلم الغيور في أوج عظمته ونبوغه. برز في عصر ابتدأت فيه الدولة العربية الإسلامية بالظهور كقوة فعالة في تاريخ العالم القديم المعروف في أواخر القرن السادس وأوائل القرن السابع للميلاد، فلم يلبث أن أصبح من الرجال الذين يشار إليهم بالبنان. تولى مسؤولية حماية الجناح الغربي للدولة، فقام بمهمته على خير ما يرام، وزاد بأن حرر الأندلس، وأضافها إلى حضيرة العرب والإسلام.
حظي هذا القائد بالعديد من الدراسات التي تناولت مختلف نواحي حياته، ولاسيما إدارته الحازمة، وما قام به من فتوح وإنجازات رفعت من شأن الدولة الأموية، كما تناقل الرواة والكتاب القدماء أخباره، حتى غدت في بعض النظام أشبه ما تكون بالأساطير, ومن يطلع على سيرة هذا القائد، وما حققه من حقبة زمنية محدودة، يلتمس العذر لهؤلاء المؤرخين على إعجابهم به، ونسبة الخوارق والأساطير إليه، فكل ما كتب عنه في الماضي، وما سيكتب عنه في المستقبل لا يمكن أن يفيه حقه من التقدير والإجلال.
وتحاول الدراسة التي بين يدينا البحث في سيرته والإلمام بكل جوانب حياته، والظروف السياسية التي رافقت نشأته وولايته، ولهذا فقد تضمنت معلومات عن العصر الذي عاش فيه، ذلك العصر الذي يعد بحق عصر القادة العظام. فتم تناول نشأة موسى وأيام ما قبل ولايته في الفصل الأول، ونوقشت في الفصل الأول الذي يبحث في اختيار موسى لولاية أفريقية، أهمية هذه الولاية، وأسباب الموجبة لاختياره. أما الفصل الثالث، فقد كرس لإنجازات موسى العسكرية والإدارية في جبهة المغرب. كما خصص الفصل الرابع لإنجازاته على صعيد فتح الأندلس، وأخيراً تم في الفصل الخامس بحث عودة موسى إلى المشرق، وتقويم موقف الخلافة منه. وذلك على وفق منهج علمي موثق، وأسلوب بسيط، ليسهل على القارئ تتبع هذه الأحداث بيسر وسهولة.
