العلاقة بين الكاتب وذاته، وما يتمخض عن تجربة الكتابة من أسئلة وسواها من هواجس لصيقة بمن يكتب، هو ما تقوله رواية "تلّة الملاّح" للروائي جان هاشم، وهو يفعل هذا من خلال الشخصيات الروائية، أو مداورة من خلال الوقائع والأحداث. وهي هواجس الروائي / الراوي الذي يصنعه الكاتب هنا ويتقاطع معه، فكلاهما يكتب، وكلاهما بنفس الوقت تنتزعهما رهبة الكتابة، لذلك فالرواية هي قصة كل كاتب نزاع كلّ روائي مع الورقة: كيف يبدأ؟ من أين يمسك بزمام الأمور؟ كيف يحكم قبضته على كلماته وشخصياته وقصته؟.
هكذا، يتحرك جان هاشم في شقته متعرياً من كل ما علق به، وكأنه بالحال يريد العودة إلى الزمن الجميل، يبحث عن الجوهر، وعن حقائق وقصص وأحداث يكتبها وتحوّله إلى الكاتب الذي طالما رآه في نفسه، إلى الرجل الناجح الذي يريده. "ومجدداً العزم على الإنصراف إلى الكتابة، أفرغ المنفضة من أعقاب السجائر، حملها إلى حيث أوراقه على طاولة غرفة الطعام. رتّب الأوراق البيض، قلب القلم بين أنامله وجمد مفكراً" ، يصف جان هاشم في عمله هذا، أفكار ومخاوف ورغبات وطموح كاتبه المنعزل في بيته، الوحيد في حيّ خالِ من أهله الذين توجهوا إلى مصيفهم، ويصف تخبّطه في أفكاره وقصصه وعجزه في أحيان كثيرة عن رصف الكلمات وانسيابها كفن له أدواته، وتقنياته، وجمالياته، الدانية الإمتاع. لذلك فإن من يقرأ الرواية لا بدّ وأن يتساءل هل هي سيرة ذاتية أم رواية؟.
