جاءت عناية الإسلام بالطفل في مرحلة مبكرة في نظام الأسرة، ترجع إلى ما قبل الزواج، وقد ورد عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في وصيته بحسن إختيار الزوجة قوله: "تزوجوا الودود الولود، فإني مكاثر بكم الأمم" رواه أبو داود، والنسائي، وابن جبان.
فالتربية الإسلامية في مفهومها الشامل هي تربية تكاملية متوازنة موجهة نحو الخير، وهي تربية سلوكية عملية وفردية إجتماعية، كما أنها تربية لضمير الإنسان وفطرته وإعلاء لدوافعه والسمو بها، وهي أيضاً تربية متجددة وإنسانية عالمية.
وقد تضمن القرآن الكريم، واستفاضت السنة المطهرة، والتراث الإسلامي بالآداب والمعاني والأساليب التربوية الإسلامية، التي ينبغي أن يتربى عليها الطفل، ويتشرب حبها منذ نعومة أظافره، حيث أن مستقبل الأمة، مرهون بحسن الإعداد التربوي للأطفال، ولن تفلح وسائل التغيير نحو مثل الإسلام وقيمه إلا بغرس هذه المثل في نفوس أبنائنا وبناتنا.
لهذا جاء البحث الذي انقسم إلى أربعة فصول، ففي الفصل الأول تناول الطفل في الإسلام، أما في الفصل الثاني فقد تطرق إلى مقومات التربية للطفل المسلم، أما الفصل الثالث فقد تناول فيه بيئات تربية الطفل في الإسلام، أما الفصل الرابع فقد تناول فيه وسائل تربية الطفل في الإسلام وأخيراً خاتمة البحث.
