يأتي هذا الكتاب ليسد حاجة المكتبة العربية إلى مؤلفٍ جامع شافٍ يجمع في أثنائه ما يدور في فلك الفن الإملاء من مسائل مختلفة، يستغنى به عن تلك المظانّ السابقة.
ولقد جاء هذا المؤلَّف في مقدّمة وثلاثة أبواب، وخاتمة؛ أما المقدمة فجعلها المؤلف في شرح سبب إختياره لهذا الفن، الباب الأول: الخط العربي، حدُّه، نشأته، أهم سماته، أهم مشكلاته، الباب الثاني: مشكلات الإملاء والخط العربيين، ومحاولات التيسير والتقريب والتجديد قديماً وحديثاً.
أما الباب الثالث: مسائل الإملاء المختلفة تعليلاً وتحليلاً، وهذه المسائل هي: الهمزة، الألف اللينة، التاءان المتطرفتان، المربوطة والمفتوحة، الحذف، الزيادة، الفصل والوصل؛ أما مسائل متفرقة لا بد من تبينها في الكتب: الإبدال، الإدغام، النون والتنوين، الياءان المهملة والمعجمة، ما يعدُّ من باب الألغاز والأحاجي، الأحرف التي يمكن أن تلتبس بغيرها لفظاً وكتباً؛ أما الخاتمة فهي في أهم ما توصل إليه المؤلف في هذا الكتاب.
