في هذا الكتاب يرد المؤلف على الدكتور محمد شحرور الذي ألف كتاباً سماه "gX5m8b1y4vhref='/itempage.aspx?id=LBb90990&search=books'>الكتاب والقرآن-قراءة معاصرة" حيث يرى مؤلف كتاب (مجرد تنجيم) أنه مدعو لإبطال ونقض مصطلحات وتقسيمات القراءة المعاصرة المغايرة في معطياتها ودلالاتها لمعطيات ودلالات الذكر الحكيم.
كما أنه يرى أن كتاب القراءة المعاصرة كتاب مليء بالترهات انتهى مؤلفه إلى اتهام السلف الصالح بالضلال وتحجر العقول. وهو قد تبنى جميع مصطلحات الفلسفة الماركسية، كما ذهب إلى أنه يجرد العرب والمسلمين قاطبة من أي شيء يدخلون به القرن الحادي والعشرين، ويجردهم من أن يكون لهم نظرية معترفة إنسانية.
والمؤلف يبين في مقدمة الجزء الأول من الكتاب معنى الآيات المحكمات والآيات المتشابهات، قبل أن يبين بطلان منطلقات ومصطلحات بمختلف القراءة المعاصرة التي لم يذهب إليها المسلمون بمختلف أزمنتهم وطوائفهم ومدارسهم الفكرية. كما يبين بطلان مصطلح "الذكر" الذي اصطلحته "القراءة المعاصرة" التي خالف فيها صاحبها مفهوم هذا اللفظ من حيث اللغة ومن حيث النصوص القرآنية.
أما في الجزء الثاني من الكتاب يعلق المؤلف على الموضوعات التي أثارها الجزء الأول ويقدم بعض الملاحظات عليها. وأما في الجزء الثالث من هذا الكتاب يستكمل المؤلف مشروعه الهادف إلى نقض القراءة المعاصرة نقضاً كاملاً مبيناً وقاطعاً، وينبري في هذا الجزء لمحو آثار ما تركته القراءة المعاصرة في نفوس بعض القراء.
