انطلاقاً من العنوان الذي اختاره محمد شحرور لكتابه( الكتاب و القرآن قراءة معاصرة) وعلى اعتبار أن الكاتب كما يقول يعتمد اللغة العربية أصلاً من أصول فهمه وإدراكه, وحيث إن اللغة عند كل قوم هي وسيلة من وسائل التعبير, فقد قام المؤلف باستخدام واو العطف بين الكتاب والقرآن في عنوان مؤلفه ليكون الانطباع الأول عند القارئ بأن مفهوم لفظ الكتاب( المصحف) غير مفهوم لفظ القرآن, وحيث أن الكاتب يرى بأن القراءة هي إدراك وفهم واستيعاب واستنتاج من جراء تتبع المعلومات, والمعاصرة هي من العصر, أي من الحقبة التاريخية, والعصر عنده ليس وقتاً أو زمناً لأنه لا يعترف بالترادف في اللغة ولا يقره. ويقر الكاتب بأن الكتاب هو من الله فألفاظه إذن من الثوابت التي لا تتغير ولا تتبدل بينما معاني هذه الألفاظ تتبدل وتتغير حسب العصور. ومن هنا نصل إلى مصادر التفكير عند الكاتب بأنها مصادر الفلسفة الماركسية ذاتها.
