هذا الكتاب الإسراف والتقتير داءان عضالان, ما أصابا أمة من الأمم إلا أهلكاها, وما حلا بمدينة من المدن إلا دمراها, وقد وصف الله سبحانه وتعالى المبذرين بوصف مشين حين جعلهم في منزلة الشياطين فقال: (إن المبذرين كانوا إخوان الشياطين وكان الشيطان لربه كفورا). كما أن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم حذر من التبذير وإضاعة المال وحذر كذلك من الشح . وفي هذا العصر حياة مادية مليئة بالإسراف والتقدير, بالبخل والتبذير, بالبذخ والشح.. وما الاستعمار الحديث إلا نتيجة من نتائج ذلك التكالب المادي الرهيب... وهذه القصائد تصف هذا الواقع المؤلم وهي: يا قادة الغرب, مدينة تدمر, ألا يا غاب ضميني, آكل الربا, بائع اليانصيب, أم الأطفال, شتاء في الزبداني, بناء المساجد, في سوق الحميدية, فلسفة الغجر, صدقة مذمومة, عرس أم مأتم, مأتم ومغرم.
