يغطي هذا الكتاب مقرر تاريخ الخليج العربي وعلاقاته بدول الشرق والغرب، وبشكل يبرز للطالب التاريخ المشترك والمصير الواحد لأبناء الخليج، في الوقت الذي يتفق فيه ويتماشى مع بزوغ فجر جديد في سماء هذا الخليج الملتهب المتمثل في قيام مجلس التعاون لدول الخليج العربي - تلك المنظمة السياسية التي نجحت إلى حد كبير في توثيق عرى العلاقة بين دول الخليج العربي وشعوبه بخطى ثابته نحو التكامل المنشود والوحدة الشاملة، وإنطلاقاً من هذا التعاون والتكامل المأمول قام المؤلف بإعداد مذكرة لطلاب الجامعة شملت تاريخ الخليج العربي السياسي بشكل عام منذ نهاية العصر العباسي حتى قيام مجلس التعاون وإلى نهاية القرن العشرين.
وقد قسمت هذه المذكرة إلى ثلاثة أجزاء، الجزء الأول يبدأ من نهاية العصر العباسي وتحديداً منذ قيام دولة القرامطة حتى نهاية القرن الثاني عشر الهجري/ الثامن عشر الميلادي أو نهاية دولة بني خالد وبداية نفوذ الدولة السعودية الأولى في الخليج العربي.
وهو هذا الكتاب الذي بين يدي القارئ وسيعمل المؤلف على إستكمال الجزء الثاني والثالث، بحيث يغطي الجزء الثاني أو الكتاب الثاني تاريخ دول مجلس التعاون منذ تاريخ نشأتها في القرن الثامن عشر وحتى الإستقلال، ثم يخصص الجزء الثالث أو الكتاب الثالث لتاريخ دول مجلس التعاون منذ الإستقلال حتى نهاية القرن العشرين.
